“My hometown is in Sherpur district, but I was born in Dhaka. I have my mother, three daughters, my brother, my grandmother and my nephew living with me. Two of my daughters are employed. Sonia is the eldest, she is eighteen and married. She has been working for the last four years and she earns around seven to eight thousand taka every month. My second oldest daughter is Sumi. She is seventeen and single. She has been working for the last one and a half year and now she earns five to eight thousand taka monthly. Both Sonia and Sumi have studied till the fifth grade.
My husband abandoned our family five years ago and got married elsewhere. Therefore I had to take full responsibility of bringing up my children alone. The three of us combined work to support our family. It is said that hard work always bears sweet fruit. We are the proof of that. We work very hard, but we are never dependent on anyone for their support.”
