“I was never good at studies. My teachers – Sometimes, they used to lure me into studying amicably, sometimes they used to force me into it. Somehow we managed to pass class eight. However, after that, I never ended up going back to school again. My father sent me to a relative’s place in Dhaka. Upon my arrival in Dhaka, I took up several kinds of work for a living. My first job was of a mechanic in a car maintenance shop. I started working at this garment factory after I got married. My wife also works. We are always surviving on a tight budget, but somehow, we make do with the little that we earn.
I never really regretted not going back to school up until our daughter was born. After she came into our life, I’ve thought of it numerous times that perhaps pursuing my education would have been a good idea. As we all know, life is already difficult for girls. And on top of that, we are a poor family. Had I studied a little longer, perhaps I could have given my daughter a better life.”
