I am Billal. It’s been 3 years since I came to Dhaka. Education? I did not really get far with my studies. I read in school up to class 5. I messed up my education at my own fault. In my family, I have my father, mother and my younger sister in the family. Good thing is, my sister is pursuing her education; she reads in class six now. My father is a mason. He is currently working at a house right behind the factory I work in. I started working as a kid in our village, Kishoreganj.
Only I know how I spent my days back then! Instead of studying, I was roaming around with my friends. At first, I did not realize that I was in bad company. Through this circle, I got involved with politics, theft, and several other bad things. When I realized what I had got myself into, I borrowed 500 taka from someone and fled to Dhaka. After I moved to Dhaka, I started off as a driver in a garment factory. My salary was around 7000 taka, I think. I have never had a stable life. That’s my only desire. I will not stay in Dhaka any longer, brother. I’m going back home this Eid. I’ll stay there. I’ll go back to farming. I can not bear with this robotic lifestyle here anymore. – An employee at a small garment factory.
