“I was only 2 or 3 years old when I came to Dhaka in the year 1995. My father is a fishmonger. I only studied till grade 5 at primary school. To be honest, I was never fond of studying. I started working in 2004. And ever since then I have been working in this print section. I have been in this area for about 4 years, and in this factory for about 6 moths now. My family consists of my four sisters and a younger brother. My brother helps my father in the business.
There is only one difficult part in my life. My mother is not with us anymore. She away due to lack of proper treatment. It was not possible to arrange proper treatment for her cure. We tried different places for opinions but did not get the right place for the treatment. That’s my life. That’s my future. My father wanted me to join the navy. It pains me to realize that I have hurt my mother. She wanted me to do a good business, for me to be educated. But I could not fulfill her dreams. Today, she has left us all. It has been five years since I got married. My wife is six month’s pregnant. I only wish that my son comes into this world; grow up to be a good person. Only if my mother was able to see her grandson… that’s the only regret.” – An employee at a garment factory
