“When I first came to Dhaka, I loved watching movies! It was one of my most favorite hobbies. It used to be a must watch whenever the movie starred Shabana and Alamgir. The movies used to be beautiful during that time but now, I have lost the interest. It’s been 25 years since I’ve watched a movie properly. Amidst all the work and responsibility, my amusement faded over time.
My family was not financially very stable; my siblings were also too young. Thus, I had to get to work even before I could finish my H.S.C. I learned tailoring work when I moved to Dhaka. After working in this field for 14 years, I tried my luck with running a shop back in the village. Nothing was working for me; it was really frustrating! Then I decided to move to Dubai. I spent about 2 lakh taka to go to Dubai; stayed there for 3 years. I used to make pillow and bed covers there. Even that was not working out. Eventually, I moved back to Dhaka and here I am now.
Life is passing by somehow. This business does not have much work except during the Eid. Hence it becomes difficult to get the salary on time during the rest of the year. There is not much hope left in me; I just want to earn a bit more. Perhaps I could have been in a better place had I been educated. I barely realized when and how all my hopes and desires faded away over the years.”
